For those who dare to live differently, who see the world as an endless playground of possibility—this is your invitation. Step out. Explore. Live.
The Origins of an Adventurous Life Unleashed
In our Stoke Spirit Stories, we seek out individuals who don't just live life but embrace it with an unbridled spirit, where every meal is a story and every moment is an adventure.
Imagine standing inches away from an 800-pound predator, armed with nothing but your hands and decades of experience. For our ambassador Gus Batista (a.k.a. ONEBEAR), this isn't a daring stunt—it's just another day at work. A Wildlife Officer, alligator wrestler, and off-grid boating enthusiast, Gus has transformed danger into a way of life, embodying the raw essence of adventure that pushes beyond conventional boundaries.
"Gus is very extreme and does everything he needs without hesitation"
——from his happy wife Kristy
Gus' journey began in the world of cowboys, riding wild horses and working rodeos. His humble beginnings were marked by a spirit that refused to be constrained by limitations. Financial challenges forced him to pivot, taking jobs on cell towers and in sporting goods stores. Even with a fear of heights, Gus persevered. He became a living testament that courage isn't about the absence of fear but the willingness to push through it.
A twist of fate came through an unlikely part-time job advertisement for an alligator wrestler. What might have seemed absurd to others became his calling. His first wrestling gig wasn't just a job; it was the key that unlocked a lifetime of adventure. It proved that passion often finds us in the most unexpected moments.
Mastering the Dance with Nature
"No tools, just hands-on methods to assure the safety of the alligator when it's captured and taken to their new home. I do not destroy these amazing creatures. A safe home is always provided for the rest of their lives. Gator Strong, my friends."
As a Wildlife Officer in the Florida Everglades, Gus' career blends danger with purpose. His work relocating nuisance gators and venomous snakes transcends mere survival. It is an intricate dance of education and conservation. The bear attack that earned him the nickname "Onebear" stands as a defining moment. It was a brutal encounter where he was mauled, receiving bites to the head and body, with nasty claw marks and internal bruising.
Yet, he survived. More than that, he thrived.
"It's not about conquering fear," Gus reflects. "It's about becoming part of the dance." This philosophy embodies the spirit of those who truly live, those who don't just observe nature but become a part of its rhythm.
"Being married to Gus has been very advanturous and full of surprises"
——also from his happy wife Kristy
After meeting Kristy, the adventure of OneBear officially transformed into the shared adventure of 2BearsOutdoors.
The YouTube channel "2Bears Outdoors" is more than entertainment. It is a platform for inspiration. Gus and Kristy share their off-grid boating adventures, inviting others to see the world differently. As an educator and conservation advocate, Gus introduces people to the Everglades' beauty, teaching respect for its dangers and wonders.
Adventure in the Post-Pandemic Era
Beyond his roles as Wildlife Officer, alligator wrestler, professional fisherman, and cigar enthusiast, Gus has become an off-grid boating enthusiast. He explains: "The restrictions and confinements that were brought about by COVID didn’t exist on the water. So more and more people were drawn to off-grid boating, particularly because of the options to stay longer out on the water without the headaches of boat ramp restrictions and drama."
Since the pandemic, you can see the extensive boating life they showcase on their channel and the people and activities they encounter during their life at sea in Florida.
"For the boating community, camping gear as an alternative option for emergency situations is actually a return to basics."
For 2Bears, stocking up on propane is no longer sufficient to handle the complexities of life on a boat, which is why our products, as an extra bonus and different option, have become an indispensable part of their boating life.
Stoke Voltaics became a game-changer in their journeys. During a trip when their traditional grill failed, the electric cooking system saved the day. It's a perfect metaphor for their approach to life: prepared, resourceful, and always ready for the unexpected.
"We took this new electric skillet gadget that we thought we're going to be cooking in with us, but it was drawing way too much power from our generator so now what?"
"I'm like, wait a sec we got Stoke Voltaics Kettle Pot! It did it and got us out of the jam. Its actually cooking burgers!"
"Of course, the Kettle Pot can also make some 'conventional' outdoor food—"
"Life isn't about avoiding danger," Gus says, "It's about finding your passion and pursuing it, even when the odds are against you."
It's truly challenging to convey their spirit and life in just one article. 2Bears' adventures continue, so please keep following their tube for more exciting stories to come!
